DOJ Targets $263 Million Crypto Theft Ring and Tornado Cash Co-Founder
The U.S. Department of Justice has indicted twelve individuals allegedly involved in a cyber-enabled racketeering conspiracy that stole over $263 million through social engineering scams and burglary. Among the accused is Roman Storm, co-founder of the cryptocurrency mixing service Tornado Cash.
Despite disbanding its dedicated crypto enforcement unit earlier this year as part of regulatory reforms, the DOJ continues to pursue high-profile cryptocurrency cases. The indictments signal ongoing scrutiny of sophisticated crypto-related crimes, particularly those involving significant financial losses.
